New Nth Beaches Parking - How It Works

27/5/2016

Wondering where you can park on the Northern Beaches under the new universal one sticker parking system?
Picture
Under the new Northern Beaches Council, residents displaying a beach and reserve parking permit, a Pittwater, Warringah or Northern Beaches permit sticker will have free parking at over 40 locations on the Northern Beaches. Manly residents will be sent a parking permit sticker within three weeks.

Former Manly Council residents who park in the former Pittwater and Warringah Council areas need to buy a parking ticket until they receive the new parking permit sticker. They also need to enter their vehicle registration for their digital permit in former Manly Council areas such as at the Manly beachfront, until they receive their Northern Beaches sticker.
Some restrictions apply:
  • Four Hour Parking ONLY at Manly beachfront metered parking spaces along North and South Steyne.
Northern Beaches Council Designated Parking Permit Areas – All Day Parking:
Birdwood Park, North Narrabeen Beach, Mid Narrabeen, Narrabeen St Beach Carpark, Robertson St Beach Carpark, Devitt St Beach Carpark, Collaroy Beach North, Collaroy Beach South, Fisherman’s Beach, Long Reef Beach, Dee Why Beach, Dee Why Headland, North Curl Curl , Mid Curl Curl, South Curl Curl, McKillop Park Reserve, Freshwater Beach, Moore Road, Freshwater (beach end), Gore Street, Freshwater, Jamieson Park, Middle Creek Reserve, Manly Dam, Avalon Beach, Bilgola Beach, Clareville Beach, Governor Phillip Park, Palm Beach, Mona Vale Beach, Newport Beach, North Narrabeen Rockpool, Ocean Road, Palm Beach, Warriewood Beach, Bayview Baths, Bilarong Reserve, Pittwater Park, Palm Beach, Winnererremy Bay Reserve, Whale Beach, Shelley Beach, Clontarf, Sandy Bay, Spit Bridge. Note: There are areas where parking permits ARE NOT VALID, including: Rowland Reserve, Bayview, Church Point Reserve, Church Point, Woorak Reserve and Iluka Park, Palm Beach.
How it works
  • If you have a valid Pittwater or Warringah parking sticker you can park for free at Northern Beaches Council beaches and reserves, including Manly Dam.
  • If you are a resident in the former Manly Council area, and are eligible or have free digital parking permits, you will be sent two new parking stickers in the next 3 weeks at no charge.
  • Manly residents will have to pay for parking at beaches and reserves in the former Pittwater and Warringah Council areas, or enter their digital permit at Manly council areas until they receive the new parking permits.
  • All vehicles must display a valid parking sticker when they park at a Northern Beaches Council beach or reserve car parks.
  • Parking is restricted to 4 hours at Manly Beachfront.
  • You no longer need to go to the meter and take a ticket OR enter your vehicle registration at Manly Beach or at any other beach or reserve on the Northern Beaches.
RestrictionsBeach and reserve parking permits are NOT VALID at Rowland Reserve, Church Point Reserve, Woorak Reserve and Iluka Park, Palm Beach car park areas as they require a Special Permit. Beach and reserve parking permits are NOT VALID at existing Manly Residential Parking Permit Scheme Areas as they require a Special Residential Permit.

What do you think?  Is this going to be good for Manly residents?

A (manly) ranger has told me there is no need to enter any details in the Manly meters.

Interesting. Must confess I don't think I'd chance it until I have my new sticker firmly in place!

Are we still able to park for 4 hours in the non metered 2 hour residential zones? Or has this been quietly removed?

Good question John. Not sure if that has been considered.

This is surely going to make parking very difficult to find for Manly residents in Manly. I think most of us will find that we are not likely to go to the other beaches any more than we did before but we will be flooded with Northern Beaches people wanting to come to the Manly beachfront for the dining and promenading now that it is free to park here. This is not "good for Manly". I wonder whether council should consider limiting Manly parking to 2 hours free to encourage some turnover of the parking spaces. Any other suggestions?

It will be interesting to see what happens. Maybe a good thing it has been introduced in the colder months.

Hope it is not the same circus if your are not Strata Title. Had to get a copy of the council rates notice from our building's managing agent to take to council each year, to keep proving that my Unit existed in the suburb. Gave up years ago with all bloated bureaucracy & simply stopped parking in these areas.
