Questions Asked in Parliament About Oval Car Park

18/8/2015

Greens MP, David Shoebridge, has asked a series of questions in Parliament in relation to the necessary permissions and approvals required from the Government in relation to Manly Council's proposed car park under Manly Oval.

The General Manager, Henry Wong, has informed the Council that "all necessary permissions have been sought".  Our own initial research would seem to question that.  It will be interesting to see the answers to Mr Shoebridge's questions which will be on-line here from 16th September.

I've got to say, the plans and suggested development actually don't look that bad.

If council does not have permission then that is very bad.
I think some of the improvements are good and the car park being smaller is also good.
Well done candy on getting these improvements.
At least it will be a good outcome . These plans are a good step!

Hi Harry. Not sure if we are on the same page? I'm questioning why Council is planning to build a car park under Manly Oval, a high risk project, to simply replace the parking we already have - no increase in parking further away.

Whister Street car park needs rennovation but the area could be greatly improved without spending much money. Why does Council want to lease it for 99 years for shops & apartments to pay for a small car park under the oval?

Thanks for sticking to the pragmatic and rational point of View Candy,

Like almost everyone I love the idea of opening up the back lanes around the Whistler St car park and maybe creating a plaza or open space there. But the latest plans now show building right over the (current) disabled parking places as well which will close off space not open it up. It will be claustrophobic and kill all the small businesses currently open in the quint back st of Market lane...the very kind of atmosphere and development Council wanted in the first place.
This on top of no traffic studies, with impending chaos around a narowed Raglan st which will become the other major route into Manly and the idiotically romaticised view that pedestrians in Sydney Rd will somehow safely and freely cross Whistler St which will become massively busier than now.
