Should the Manly Harbour Pool be rebuilt?

_Were you living in Manly when we had the old Harbour Pool?  A documentary by local Marian Hambly on "Reflections of Manly Pool"  which will be shown at Manly Fishos Tuesday 10th January*, will no doubt rekindle the debate as to whether a proper harbour pool and walkway linking the wharf and Oceanworld should be reinstated as a way to revitalise Manly Cove.
(Showing at Manly Fishos, Raglan Street,  7 for 7.30pm. $10 to support Eco Divers and Two Hands Project.)

What do you think?  Do you remember the old  harbour pool? What would need to be done today to make such a facility more environmentally-friendly for example?

I did not live in Manly when the pool was there but I've seen many photos and have always wished that Manly Council would spend money on something like that instead of bad tiling or an 800 space car park that no one wants.

I remember as a young girl probably from around 7 years of age coming down to Manly for regular summer holidays. We had swimming lessons in that harbour pool - it was quite unique over there near the yacht club. My mum also talks about doing her swimming lessons there when she lived in Manly! I also remember the harbour front when the walkway went from Manly Wharf to Ocean World and the various pontoons that we could swim out to and have great fun on. As much as I love the vista to the harbour that is there now - alot of these innocent "fun" activities seem to be disappearing from our communities as the threat of litigation seems more of an issue...it would be nice to get a balance somehow.

I have some copies of the Heritage photos of the pool and recreation areas and they look simply gorgeous. I have heard many stories from the Manly locals reminicing aout the wonderful baths and the Manly Pavilion....please rebuild and bring some of that much need family essence back to our superb suburb!

Would so love to see the pool and promenade return. I remember it well. I could never understand why they didn't rebuild such a popular venue. Fun for everyone and a great alternative if you didn't
necessarily want to swim in the surf.

I wish they would rebuild the promenade as there is not enough swimming area now and the shark proofing made swimming safe and a lot of fun with the wheel and pontoon to be able to swim out to. It is very much missed, and our children will never understand the hours of fun that was spent at the beach.

It was one of the fantastic experiences of m life during the sixties and early seventies but you cant rebuild it as the would be too many accidents leading to law suits and the manly council knows this.

The Pool was one of the most beautiful experiences of growing up in Manly. The water was natural, not chlorinated, and you did not have to pay to get in. It drew immense crowds of fun-loving people in summer, and in winter it was empty. Fish swam between the bars, where they were sheltered somewhat, and seaweeds grew on the bars that fed and hid them. Most people never saw that. Greenies imagine emptiness is what a fish wants, but a fish wants cover, somewhere to hide, and food.
