Manly Fun Run- A Runaway Success!
Over 1200 people turned out on Sunday 20th May to participate in the Manly Scenic Fun Run organised by the Manly Rotary Sunrise Club. The run/walk raised over $95,000 for local and international charities and projects. Participants competed in 2km, 5km, and 10km events. The Hotel Steyne sponsored a $5 Breakfast with proceeds going to the fundraising effort. It’s great to see this fundraiser turning into a popular Manly event!

Clean Up Australia Day
Locals gathered on Sunday 4th March to support Clean up Australia Day at Little Manly Beach and East Esplanade. 75 kilos of rubbish was collected including 20 kilos out of the water thanks to four members of Eco Divers. It was concerning that 183 cigarette butts were collected around just one bench seat alone in the park. One of the most unusual things found was a pregnancy test kit.
A petition was also arranged urging the NSW Government to introduce legislation for the purpose of putting a ban on single-use lightweight plastic bags at retail points-of-sale in NSW by the end of 2012.

Manly Icon Bruce Paterson Celebrates 83rd Birthday
Known locally as 'the man in the wetsuit' Bruce is a well-known and popular icon on Manly beach most mornings. But it wasn't until the community organised a birthday celebration on 12 February that we learnt about this amazing man. He has done things like cycle solo from Perth to Sydney across the Nullarbor, and ran, yes ran, up Mount Kosciusko as part of an endurance event. Happy Birthday Bruce!

This year's Awards went to Ellie Hunt, President of the Manly Women's Shelter; Young Citizen Lisa Stueckradt and Manly Sportsperson of the Year, Julie Isbill founder of the Bold and Beautiful community ocean swim group.
Although a cloudy day, Australian flags were spotted in all sorts of places and on all sorts of faces!

Inflatables Race - Manly Beach
An unusual mist hovered hovered over the beach adding an eerie atmosphere; a huge swell beckoned, but a hearty group refused to be deterred as they adjusted their fancy-dress costumes, checked their inflatables for any last minute adjustments and then headed courageously through the huge waves in their attempt to become the champions of the Annual Inflatables Race at Manly Beach on Sunday, 20th November 2011. Lost wigs, deflated craft and alot of fun!
