Manly Seahorse Wishing Pool
Every great fountain has a story behind it. They say that if you drop a coin in the Trevi Fountain, you’ll be sure to come back to Rome one day. And in Florence, dropping a coin in the mouth of Il Porcellino and rubbing his snout will bring you luck.
As part of the Good for Manly initiative, we’d like to reinvigorate the West Esplanade, Manly Cove by creating a wishing fountain. Many locals have fond memories of the Manly Hospital Wishing Pool that was located on the ocean front (opened in 1933) and once collected donations for the hospital.
Coins dropped in the new fountain would be donated to local charities, but there’s more to a Wishing Fountain than that .....
We want your help in creating the story behind the new fountain, to make it a genuine part of Manly. To create this fountain, we’d like to take inspiration from one of Manly’s most magical inhabitants: The mystical Seahorse. And to make it really special, we’d like to hear some genuine Manlyite stories or myths about Seahorses. Tell us about your own encounters with them, or any stories you’ve heard – or written yourself!
