Locals are fed up with the number of boats and trailers parked on residential streets – most of them owned by people from way out of the area. Parking spaces in Manly are precious so it's time this issue is resolved, but how to fix it? The current NSW road rules allow boats up to 7.5 metres long to be parked in public streets. However, councils do not have the power to fine boats and trailers parked in unlimited zones. Should there be time limits, fees or other restrictions in place? What do you think?

People who own boats shoud be required to park boats on their own property or moor them at a marina.

I agree with the Good for Manly team. A possible solution comes from the Willoughby Council that makes a side of the road non parking for 3 hours on a given day each week for street cleaning. This would move many of the outsiders away as they may not find it convenient to move their boat say on a wednesday afternoon from1.00pm to 4.00 pm every week. The other side of the road would be at a diferent time frame. Result cleaner streets and less long term parking. The No Parking could be a Tow away zone thus confiscating any offender and creating revenu for the Council!

In recent years, Northern Beaches Council allowed unapproved granny flats to be built which doubled parking on our street and then took away valuable spots to allow for coastal walkers, but they all walk down the centre of the road anyway. The numerous boats and trailers left on our street by selfish owners (for way more than the allowed 28 days) are a final blow. Is there a parking restriction which allows motorized vehicles only? If so, I would like to advocate that our council erects signs to this effect.
