A tender has now been issued for the construction of the new indoor swim centre on the site of the Andrew Boy Charlton Swim Centre. Work is expected to commence within the next few months. In the meantime the outdoor pools have reopened after the winter break. As part of the new development, the existing 50 metre outdoor pool is to remain, however a development application has been approved for the existing 25 metre pool to be converted into a polo pool, once funding is secured. Locals are watching the construction costs of the new facility, which was originally budgeted at $15 million. After the tender process and including Architect's fees, the price tag is already closer to $19 million. The new parking arrangements in nearby Kenneth Road, which have now been changed three times, continue to raise safety concerns. The Manly Traffic Committee is to consider whether a 40 kpm limit zone should be introduced.

Why can't Manly Council convert some of the fields adjacent to the swimming complex to a car park where sufficient car parks can be supplied, the safety risks inherent with the proposed street parking, for young children would be overcome and it is obvious to all residents that there are more then sufficient sporting fields in the Manly Warringah area to cater for all sport activities.

No one who uses this pool on a regular basis wants these changes. Manly pool is a very well used public facility . All the people who swim there love and if the council wants a gym and indoor pool build it somewhere else !!

The polo pool should not be paid for by Manly ratepayers as it mainly caters for those outside the area .Why not at the Institute of Sport at Narrabeen? Also there are gyms on almost every corner we dont need another one! Manly Council under Hay and Wong seem intent creating grand edifices when the local community prefers a village atmosphere with more modest upgrades. Manly Council should remember they are there for their constituents who live outside the CBD. and not only tourists.

I would appreciate some steps or a ladder being installed in all pools so that we elderly can enter and exit the pools more readily.

Can someone tell me who the builder will be for this? This will be a good opportunity for a local business like me to work in the area hopefully. Thanks!
