A Message From Candy Bingham:

Due to COVID restrictions the Council elections have been postponed from the 4th  September to Saturday 4th December. 

A lot has happened since the amalgamated council came into being in 2017, and I'm proud to have served three terms as Deputy Mayor, including the current term.  Good For Manly has achieved a lot, but there is still plenty to do, so we're excited to be running again. I will head up an impressive team of three candidates for the Manly Ward.  

Here's a list of some our key achievements over the past four years. 

General Items

• Raised the funds to replace Manly’s Sea Nymphs sculpture at Fairy Bower pool 
• Launched community campaign to Save the iconic Manly Ferries (ongoing)
• Reinstated Off-leash dog area at Manly Lagoon
• Supported the return of movies to Manly with Movies@Manly this winter
• Commenced process to have boats banned from Cabbage Tree Bay
• Worked with Council to relocate Northern Beaches Community Centre to new home

Protection and reactivation of community business precincts

• Ensured continuation of  Manly Jazz Festival for 2021
• Introduced $5 evening car parking fee in Manly Council carparks
• Overturned RMS’s clearway proposal outside the Manly Vale shops
• Pushed for the refurbishment of Whistler Street Car Park and Manly Library
• Initiated use of posters to soften the look of vacant shop windows
• Championed the repurposing of Manly Town Hall into a multipurpose performance space (ongoing)
• Worked with owners and council to have Manly Wharf refreshed
• Advocated for a sensible solution to the Manly Resident Parking Scheme​

Community Engagement and Education

• Instrumental in relaunching the Manly Ward Residents’ Forum Meetings
• Hosted six Manly Talks on a wide range of  topics
• Initiated Council's running of Workshops on the prevention of dementia
• Maintained active Facebook & Instagram pages
• Assisted thousands of local residents with local issues and concerns

Infrastructure and Planning

• Initiated East Esplanade refurbishment and new toilets (pictured)
• Championed the rebuild of Manly Surf Lifesaving Club (underway)
• Pushed for the upgrade of the stormwater outlet on the beach at North Steyne
• Initiated a long-term Traffic Plan for Roseberry Street Balgowlah & surrounds
• Introduced  a Movable Heritage Register 
• Ensured future land use is consistent with the protection and management of the War Memorial Park at Manly Dam
• Worked to have Manly Dam playground designed to suit its sensitive location (pictured)
• Increased dog off-leash area at LM Graham reserve. 
• Championed the retention of the lights on pillars on East and West Esplanades along with their addition to the Movable Heritage Register.
• Worked with Council staff on Clontarf Reserve Masterplan; Little Manly Masterplan; Nth Harbour Reserve Masterplan and Little Manly Point improvements
• Initiated Masterplan for West Esplanade. Works to commence shortly
• Initiated Masterplan process for Manly Oval & Ivanhoe Park (underway)
• Worked for the upgrade of toilets at Shelly Beach (to come)

Future Projects

• Explore the possible reinstatement of the boardwalk and harbour pool on West Esplanade,Manly Cove
• Repurpose Manly Town Hall into a multipurpose performing arts space
• Have Cabbage Tree Bag designated as a 'no boats' zone
