As the word starts to get out, more and more residents have become concerned about the totally unworkability of Manly Council's 2015 Traffic Plan. More street closures, 10km pedestrian-shared zones and the removal of 400 street car parking spaces is just the beginning. More details and online petition here.

I do agree that closing current car parks and engineering/constructing a new car park that ultimately only offers a few extra parking spacesat HUGE costs seems rediculous...that money could be much better spent in Manly. I am of the opinion that fewer cars should be allowed into Manly and money spent on a great community bus system would encourage more Manly Council residents to come into town without the need of a car. Therefore, I would like to see a Manly with more pedestrian friendly spaces, shared by cars, pedestrians and cyclists such as South Steyne to North Steyne (to Pine st) and many of the smaller roads which branch off the current Corso. The roads which should remain traffic thoroughfares should be the Esplanade and Pittwater Rd right up to the Wharf :)Natasha

Natasha. Obviously you do not need to shop at Manly, access Eastern Hill, the hospital, North Head, the Quarantine Station, College of Management, Police Academy, Shelly Beach or either of the schools in Manly! I agree it would be lovely in an ideal world if the sun shone all the time, and we all had the time and ability to walk and cycle everywhere and when we didn't a bus would magically appear at our door and take us where we wanted to go and then take us back again with our eight bags of shopping, children, sea kayaks, etc. I run a business that needs vehicular access to residents on Eastern Hill and I live in Manly too. ANY road closures in the past have been catastrophic for any of us that use a vehicle in Manly or on the Eastern Hill. To support this is out of the question. I also am a pedestrian and cyclist and see no net benefit in "pedestrianising" Manly any more that it already is. A cycle path devoid of pedestrians would be nice but not possible or practical space-wise.

Hi everybody, I am part of a campaign to prevent our City Place here in Cairns, our Town Square, from being opened to traffic.
