The latest design proposal for Police Station _Update: 21/1/12. The government's Joint Regional Planning Panel approved the updated $9.65m four storey development of the heritage-listed Police Station this week. The previous proposal of a more modern-looking seven storey redevelopment (see picture below) caused community outcry that it was too large and not in keeping with the historic significance of the site and its surrounding buildings, was fortunately shelved resulting in a more appropriate redevelopment being approved. Old design was seen as inappropriate for the site. The recent design to upgrade the old Police Station in the 1920s historic streetscape of Belgrave Street by building a seven storey masonry tower has gone back to the drawing boards following an outcry from locals. Working together Manly Council and local member Mike Baird have instigated a far better outcome for this important site. The latest design has been reduced to a more appropriate four storey building with parking underground. The style will be more in keeping with its historic surrounds of the old court house and Town Hall. Excellent outcome! We look forward to seeing the new proposal.
