Over time, many of Manly’s scenic viewing areas have lost their views due to overgrown vegetation.
There are many examples along the Manly Scenic Walkway including the above at Tania Park, Dobroyd Point; North Harbour and Fairy Bower Point where overgrown vegetation (some of which has been planted by Council) has now grown to such an extent that views are either lost or greatly obscured. While it is appreciated that some of these official viewing areas fall within the responsibility of the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, Good For Manly has put forward an idea that an audit be done of the current public viewing areas to ascertain what maintenance, if any, needs to be done. What do you think? Should vegetation be allowed to grow to such an extent that public viewing areas no longer have views?

Good point Candy. This seems to be an issue all over Australia, a few examples in Manly of which this is one. Why spend all the money creating these view points when they are often overgrown. It a classic case of carrying out a project, but allowing no on-going planning or maintenance around it.

Views at North Head likewise seem to be reducing with vegetation (pittosporum, lantana. weeds and some natives) taking over in front of two of the car parks, cafe and along the road. It's such a shame. People travel the world to see the views. The elderly disabled sometimes can only enjoy them from a vehicle. Why not make it easier for everyone and value the joy they give. That's what my 96 year old mum says!

Raise the viewing deck to be just higher than the height needed to see Manly from Tania Park. Once you cut the crowns out of the native gum trees they shall struggle to survive, and let light into the lower areas and allow weeds to thrive. Its also NSW National Parkland and there is no other solution available.
