The overflow stormwater pipe at North Steyne has been an eyesore for years and the cause of many an accident, one in particular causing a surfer to become a paraplegic. The Council has received two independent reports stating that the removal of the pipe will have minimal effect on the waves at North Steyne but local surfers claim that rain water coming out of the pipe changes the sand banks and therefore conditions. Should it stay or go? What do you think?

Why not let the surfer boarders' comments count, they know this region well. I grew up with these pipes and if you are worried about them, SWIM/SURF SOMEWHERE ELSE....

If their removal poses no problems to the seascape and surf action then they should go as they are not just an eyesore but a source of beach pollution with the runoff of street rubbish.

These pipes date back to the early 20th century. Time and technology have moved on.I believe they should be removed due to the fact that runoff from the streets are polluting the beaches.

If this is the cause of many surfer accidents then it should be removed and the Council should think alternative solution.

It's a real eyesore and really not up to par with he world class destination Manly is. Whatever anyone says about currents and waves, it's irrelevant. These pipes have close to zero impact. You know what has impact? climate change...
