I have just received a fantastic article written by Johanna Grahn which really highlights the real (and continuing) problem we have with cigarette butts littering & polluting our parks, beaches and water in Manly. Just strolling from Manly Wharf along East Esplanade she collected 217 butts in 1 hour (and those butts are hard to pick up!). Any ideas how we can change this?

It cannot be that hard to fine these morons. In additon to a lovely fine top it off with some community service picking them up for several hours! Throw in a bit of publicity and a few fines, job done!

As smoking is something that negatively effects the health of everyone around it as well as effecting the environment, it should be banned in all public space across the world. I also believe people should have to have a prescription to be able to purchase it.

I'm against smoking but I cannot understand how the government can ban smoking here there and everywhere when smoking is legal. It's like handing out driver's licenses but not allowing people to drive. If the government was really concerned about public health they would make smoking illegal. Guess they're more concerned about the health of the cigarette companies.
